Latest Updates from Our Project:

New Dized tutorial available now!
almost 4 years ago – Tue, Jun 02, 2020 at 03:57:19 PM

Hey backers!

Today we’ll talk about:

  • Time Breaker Tutorial available for Android devices, iOS to follow soon

  • Backer Credits Usable Soon

  • Promos shipping in June

  • Publishers can now get Dized Tutorials for their games!

Time Breaker Tutorial Available for Android Devices, iOS to Follow Soon

The first new tutorial built with the Dized Content Creation Tool is now available for Android devices. In order to access the tutorial you will need to update Dized to the latest version (version 3.3.18). Due to the longer wait times for review on iOS devices, Apple users will receive the update a bit later.

The new tutorial is for Time Breaker from Looney Labs. Although we announced Carcassonne earlier, Time Breaker is the first out the door as it was more straightforward to build with the current version of the tool.

A small snippet from the Time Breaker tutorial

As we expand and develop the tools further, we will also be moving towards more complicated projects. Several shorter projects are already being worked on by us in-house, publishers and third party creators. A release schedule will be published once we get a better understanding of the amount of work required for these upcoming projects.

In any case we're quite excited to have reached this very important milestone of the first new tutorial!

Backer Credits Usable Soon

Please note that credits bought on the crowdfunding campaigns cannot yet be used to access paid content on Dized. Don't panic though, as this feature is already under development and will be available soon.

Right now the only paid content in the app is the Time Breaker tutorial, available as an in-app purchase. Ability to use credits will be made possible before more tutorials are published.

Promos Shipping in June

The promo shipping has been delayed for a while now and the situation currently is the following:

All the packages are done and ready to be shipped, including both the promos and the other goodies from the store. Unfortunately due to Covid-pandemic our original shipping option is not available, and currently the known alternatives are substantially more expensive. We are in the process of finding out all possible options and then making the decision once we have all the required information.

Lots of goodies in these boxes!

In any case: the shipping will commence in June.

Publishers Can Now Get Dized Tutorials for Their Games!

And a shout out to all the publishers and game designers out there - now is the time to get your games in Dized! If you’re not already in contact with us, reach us to [email protected] to get started!

Stay Safe,

-Team Dized

Hello Dear Backers!

Today we’ll talk about:

  • The Progress of the Dized Content Creation Tools
  • Accessing the Content on Dized
  • Next steps

The Progress of the Dized Content Creation Tools

While we all try to cope with the global crisis the best we can, things are still in motion here at Dized. The Covid-19 situation has driven our whole team into exile (that is we've been working from our homes) for the past weeks. Luckily most of the team have avoided falling sick and at this crucial time we hope to keep it that way! So more online meetings are on the horizon for us.

While all this hasn't stopped us from making steady progress, in this intensive period when we're trying to wrap everything together and make sure all the components work with each other, it has unfortunately slowed us down quite a bit.

That being said, we’re not much behind our latest estimation (some weeks). Every day we squish bugs that are still left while we build the first in-house tutorial.

Meeple soccer! We can do all sorts of cool little animations with our tools.

For the title we’re building, we’ll announce the name of the game soon, hopefully with a proper video captured from the tutorial already! It’s not one of the more complicated games we have listed (sorry, no Gloomhaven yet) but a project that has allowed us to test several key Dized features and works as a proof for players, publishers and other industry operators that the tools now work!

We have also started to expand the test groups and first publishers are already learning the tools and have begun to build their tutorials. And that is awesome news! We’re expecting to expand the test groups soon when we can make sure it’s smooth sailing for the ones using the Tools already.

On top of this we’re creating more training materials for the Tools to make sure everyone will have all the information needed to get started.

Accessing the Content on Dized

Preview of how the Dized label will look in a box.

One of the ways players will be able to obtain Dized tutorials in the future is through redeeming codes. Several publishers will provide free Dized tutorials to players buying their games and the solution for this is to offer a one-time use redeem code card inside the box. So when you see a label like this (see picture) in a game you will know that there’s going to be free digital goodies inside.

Keep your eyes peeled for these!

You can redeem these codes online, the content will be added to your Dized account and it is yours to keep. There are already plans and deals in motion to include code cards in some great new titles that are published later this year.

As a backer you can also get your hands on the content by redeeming the Credits you purchased in the crowdfunding campaigns. This will be possible a bit later, once the code system has been implemented.

When no code or crowdfunding Credits are used, the content on Dized can be accessed via in-app purchases.

Next Steps

The next big milestone will be the release of the new Dized client that supports the Tutorials that are built with the tools. So when you see that Dized update pending, you know that we have reached the point when the Tutorial content starts arriving!

If you happen to be in contact with a publisher you think should start putting tutorials for their games into Dized, please ask them to contact us! For publishers the easiest way to get started is by heading to https://dized.com/b2b.

We’ll also continue the promo fulfillment process of the promos now in April, and we’ll stay in touch when the items leave the facility. There are probably more delays just due post offices being closed down, but at least we’ll get them on their way!

Keep your eyes on our social media channels too, we’ll be sharing snippets of the projects we and other creators are tackling.

So keep calm, stay inside and be safe!

Development update - we're working remotely ... and so should you!
about 4 years ago – Wed, Mar 18, 2020 at 03:01:41 AM

Hey dear Backers!

As you all know, the situation around the globe has taken a turn from bad to worse. The government mandated restrictive measures hit us yesterday as well and it will affect everyone here, including Dized.

To ensure health and well-being for everyone around us we need to reduce our travel time and work remotely where we can. It's not ideal to keep the whole team separated, but in the end it's a small feat to ask to battle this pandemic. Also, as schools are closed and part of day cares as well, several of us have to make arrangements and have to reduce our working hours. All this will affect our schedule.

Now, before the last development sprint we were in schedule for this quarter as discussed earlier, but we're going to have to assess our situation again. We're not grinding to a halt, but this will most likely cause a delay of some weeks (estimated). We're extremely close of getting the first tool-built tutorial released already (luckily) so we don't have any big questions or problems lingering, so it's just execution at this point.

Thank you for understanding, wash your hands and keep safe! We'll keep you updated!

PS. a small update on the promos: we are trying to navigate our way through all the extra troubles caused by the Corona virus, as it is affecting more than just the fulfillment facility temporarily closing shop. Currently we are estimating for the fulfillment to resume in April. Let's hope that there will be no more delays or complications. Keeping our fingers crossed!

Fulfillment and status update
about 4 years ago – Wed, Feb 19, 2020 at 02:34:06 AM

Dear Backers,

Just a quick update today, we’ll touch briefly on:

  • Fulfillment of physical products
  • Status of the Tools and the upcoming tutorials

Fulfillment of physical products

Unfortunately the promos haven’t yet left the fulfillment facility. After the delays due to packaging issues in December, we couldn’t complete the sorting and sending of the packages before Chinese New Year. And then, as you probably know at this point, due to the unfortunate outbreak of Corona-virus, the Chinese government delayed the vacation for 2 weeks (to begin with) and are just now looking into letting some facilities resume business. The situation is pretty devastating for the people involved and there is nothing we can really do about it. We ask our backers to have understanding for the inconvenience and delay caused by this.

This is from our fulfillment partner:

“Good news is we have a good quantity of the sets already packaged. Bad news is I have no idea when the government will give us a return to work permit. Hate to say it though, but we may be looking at March before we are really rolling again.”

We will keep you up to date as the situation develops.

Status of the Tools and the upcoming content

We’re still on schedule on what we mentioned in the December update:

“The official launch of the new Dized app will happen at the same time that we’re releasing the first tutorial created with the tools. We don’t have a fixed date for this yet (internal goals and estimates of course), but we’re aiming for the first quarter of 2020.”

The development of the Toolset has progressed as planned and we’ve already started building the first tool-made tutorial! This tutorial will be the first of many, of course, but we need to start somewhere! We’ll announce the title a bit later. Building the first tutorial allows us to test the tools with an actual product. Every day we are discovering that certain features require tweaking, or we find straight up bugs, most of which need to be fixed before the release. Now, we’re not trying to make it perfect by any chance, but we did learn our lesson with the Rules Tool: we released it a bit too early and this time we will time the launch better.

Newton and Walls of York rules now on Dized

And a quick shout out to Cranio Creations for publishing two new Dized Rules: Walls of York and Newton. Check them out!

That’s it for now!

- Team Dized

End of the year update
over 4 years ago – Mon, Dec 23, 2019 at 09:32:59 PM

We’re heading towards the end of 2019 and have a lot of news, so let’s get to it!

  • Toolset progress, new tutorials and the schedule ahead
  • New blogpost available
  • Promos are being shipped soon
  • Latest content in Dized

Toolset progress, new tutorials and the schedule ahead

Let’s get the important news out there first. The testing phase of the tutorial toolset has begun. While we’re still building more functionalities, we can already create projects, program the flow logic, create animations and 3d objects - all the bricks and mortar we need to create a fully fledged Dized tutorial. At this stage - besides adding features - we are concentrating on improvements and finding all the bugs, glitches and problems before we open wide access to the system. The main thing is that the work is now starting towards new tutorials! We’ll keep you up to date on the progress!

The other very important piece is of course the platform and the app. After all you need to be able to use, purchase and download the tutorials. In short, this is a massive task, and it’s as crucial for the project as the creation tools. Our small team is pulling everything together and the development is progressing as planned.

So what does this mean for the road map ahead?

The testing phase will last until the end of the year and for January as well. We’ll start building new tutorials already during this phase, starting with various titles from our pilot projects list – probably a few light games like Carcassonne or Bang!, along with a heavier one like Scythe. An important process is also to proof-test the creation tool by building again the 3 existing tutorials – Kingdomino, ICECOOL and Blood Rage - which is also necessary to help us get rid of the legacy code. It should be quick as all the flowcharts and assets for these games are already done, and having only tutorials made with the tools will eventually make the app code much cleaner. The end of the test phase means that we will open the tool to all publishers and freelancers, not just the dozen handpicked content creators.

The official launch of the new Dized app will happen at the same time that we’re releasing the first tutorial created with the tools. We don’t have a fixed date for this yet (internal goals and estimates of course), but we’re aiming for the first quarter of 2020.

We’re not there yet, but there are quite exciting times ahead of us!

New blogpost available

As a way for all the backers to take a peek on the development that’s happening at our office every day, we have a blog site running. We know though that by focusing 100% on developing the app and the creations tools, we haven’t been the best at communicating about our progress this past year. To make amends, we wrote a new post to take a look at the past year and why development can take unexpected turns. It’s a long one but worth a read if you want to get a good idea of “why is it taking so long, it’s just tutorials”. Take a look at it at our Medium blog.

Promos are being shipped soon

The Kickstarter promos along with the other physical items will start shipping soon. There was a delay on the fulfillment as the last promo we received (Eclipse) was too big for the packaging we were planning to use. That issue is being addressed right now, but unfortunately we won’t be able to ship them before Christmas holidays. That’s a bummer and we do apologize that we couldn’t keep up with the schedule.

Greetings from the fulfillment facility!

Please note that the addresses have been locked and address lists delivered to the fulfillment facility – so if you need to change it, please contact our support from now on. There’s still a bit of time to make changes if need be!

Finally, you can now check the list of all 14 promos and rules for each of them on our website!

Latest content in Dized

And also a quick reminder that there’s still constantly new content being released in Dized by publishers. The con season has put a delay on some of the upcoming projects as well as publishers getting ready to get the tutorial tools out - but there will be more rules coming up as well. For now, some of our newest titles include Until Daylight, Cerebria, Tales of Glory, Reavers of Midgard, Time Breaker and Project L. So if you have any rules questions for these games, check them out in Dized!

That’s it for now! Happy holidays to all, and remember to play more games!
